About Us

The Lost River Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent of the law.

Our foundation engages the community in the artistic process, fosters appreciation for the production and value of handmade objects through instruction, demonstration and display, and provides a marketing center for regional artists and craftspeople.

Sharon Young Page

President

Sharon Young Page, LREF President, is an enthusiastic supporter of local arts and crafts. She lives in Lost River, transitioning from weekender to full-timer in December 2024. She has lived in 3 different regions of West Virginia, happily calling the Potomac Highlands home.  Sharon is a retired school nurse who still substitutes in Hardy County Schools. As an avid reader, she also serves on the board of WordPlay Connects, getting books into the hands and homes of West Virginian children. She can be found digging in the dirt, feeding her goats, or hunting the eggs her chickens like to hide in unlikely places.

Deb Fraser

Vice President

Deb Fraser, LREF Vice-President, is longtime LREF artist member and lives in Broadway, Virginia. Deb is a retired banker and previously owned and operated a commercial greenhouse. After closing her greenhouse, Deb channeled her love of flowers into creating embroidered felt flower pictures and caps embroidered with flowers. Deb also creates charming caricatures from teasel weed pods, a craft with origins in West Virginia history, and teaches classes to keep these traditions alive.

Jean Flanagan

Secretary

Jean Flanagan, LREF Secretary, is enjoying her retirement from a journalism career with the Moorefield Examiner. She has lived in Baker, Hardy County, since 2007. Ever since her grandmother taught her to crochet as a child, Jean enjoys her craft and often teaches classes free of charge for various community organizations. Jean’s hope is that through her crochet classes, this craft will be passed from generation to generation.

Tommy Rossman

Treasurer

Tommy Rossman, LREF Treasurer, has lived in Hardy County since 2021 and has over 25 years of human resources experience, currently as a Senior HRIS Analyst at Chemonics, an international development consulting firm. Tommy is the co-founder of Rogue League Sports, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) educational organization supporting the LGBTQ+ community through social sports and programming, and previously served as President of Team DC, an association for over 40 LGBTQ+ sports organizations in the DC region.

Holly Wade Landes

Holly Wade Landes, LREF Board Member, is a retired art teacher from Hardy County Schools. She creates hand-tooled copper, quilling, handmade soap, and paintings in both acrylic and oils. Holly is the Secretary of the Hardy County Wellness Center. She enjoys golf, gardening, fishing, and the challenge of growing orchids.

Gloria Weary

Gloria Weary, LREF Board Member, has lived in Hardy County since 2007, having retired since 2019 following a career of nearly 40 years in various financial institutions. Gloria enjoys gardening and enjoys her time quilting and exploring other creative projects.

Rob Hawks

Newsletter Editor

Rob Hawks, LREF Board Member and Website/Newsletter Editor, has lived in Hardy County since 2020 and is a practicing attorney with the U.S. Department of Transportation. Rob previously served as President of Lost River Pride, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and is a leader in fundraising and community outreach.

Connie Thomas

Connie Thomas, LREF Board Member, is a retired teacher with Hardy County Schools. Although she enjoys multiple fiber arts, quilting is her passion and finds collecting fabric and piecing quilts is the most creative part of the process. Connie appreciates the support and collaboration of the crafting community and attends quilt retreats and sewing groups with friends. She also gardens and cans homegrown produce, and she enjoys reading and traveling.
