About the Event
NOTE DATE CHANGE: Class is on September 2. Join Holly Landes, retired art teacher and Marketplace member to learn a new craft.
Practice papers will be used in experimenting with rolling and shaping techniques. Afterward, class participants will create a quilled greeting card and/or a quilled 5x7 picture. Mats will be available for the 5x7 pictures with a brief critique of selecting appropriate mat colors and frames for various artwork from the class.
Description: Although historians can’t agree on the origin of quilling, it is widely believed that as early as Ancient Egypt, quills from a bird’s feather were used to roll narrow strips of paper into various forms and then used to decorate various items. During the Victorian era, affluent ladies were often taught quilling as well as needlepoint. Fortunately, today more modern materials are used to roll paper strips, and quilling continues to be a popular craft!
Students are asked to bring the following:
* one 4-oz or smaller bottle of Aleena’s Clear Gel Tacky Glue
* wooden toothpicks
* pencil/eraser
* colored pencils [optional – the instructor will have a wide selection available]
* a tote - small to medium
* one manilla folder
